Are Dental Implants Safe?

Dental implant surgery is a routine procedure and you can have peace of mind knowing that dental implants have been placed for over 30 years.  When looking for a dental implant doctor it is important to find a well-qualified dental surgeon with a lot of experience with dental implants. If you live in the metro Detroit, Michigan area, Dr. Young has over 37 years experience and dedicates his practice solely to dental implants and dental implant training.  He is also a Diplomate and board certified by the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry, as well as, an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

When considering dental implants, you can rest assured knowing it is a very well-planned procedure.   Your dental surgeon will go over your healthy history, perform an oral exam, X-rays/CT scans and discuss all of your options and any potential risks with you well in advance.  Prior to surgery, your dental implant surgeon can also offer you a mild sedative or anti-anxiety medication to help you feel more calm.  During the actual procedure, most individuals are not fully put to sleep, but instead placed under local anesthesia which also lowers any risk.

Dental implants have a high success rate of 95% in most patients.  In rare instances when they do not integrate to the bone, your surgeon will remove bone graft and replace 3-6 months later. Dental implants, unlike dentures, require minimal maintenance and when well taken care of can last anywhere from 25 to 30 years and longer.  There are many things you can do to help your dental implant procedure be successful and keep your natural teeth healthy. Make sure to schedule routine cleanings/check-ups and maintain daily oral hygiene by brushing, flossing and/or using an interdental brush that slides between the teeth.  To maintain your dental implants, avoid chewing on hard items, tooth staining caffeine and tobacco products.  If you find yourself grinding, make sure to contact your dental surgeon to have a bite guard made to protect your teeth.

If you are interested in dental implant surgery, please call 888.257.4025 to set up a consultation with Dr. Young.  He has several office locations he works out of throughout Southeast Michigan.
